Frostbite (Vampire Academy #2) by Richelle Mead

It’s winter break at St Vladimir’s, and a massive Strigoi vampire attack has put the school on high alert. This year’s trip away from the academy to the wintery peaks of Idaho has suddenly become mandatory.
But Rose’s troubles seem to follow her wherever she goes—dealing with the pain of knowing that her relationship with her tutor Dimitri can never be, things get even more complicated when one her closest friends admits his feelings for her.
The glittering winter landscape may create the illusion of safety but Rose—and her heart—are in more danger than she ever could have imagined...

*Remember there will be spoilers*

Chapter 6:
First sentence:
I was feeling pretty good about life when I headed to my before-school practice the next day.

So Rose is feeling pretty good about herself after the succeses of the last few days with the staking and saying Dimitri should go with Tasha to protect her. That's changed however when she walks into training, cause guess who's there. Her mother. Turns out she'll be the one training Rose that day. So, of course that doesn't go well, but it does give a chance for Rose and her mom to get some frustrations out and "talk" about the problems between them while sparring. However the training ends up getting Rose to the clinic after taking a punch from her mother. So yeah Rose ends up with a black eye that she got from her mom of all people.

Quote:
High on myself, I couldn't wait to practice even more.

Chapter 7:
First sentence:
I angrily pushed through the double doors that led into the Moroi dorm.

So Rose's day is not looking too good after her mother gave her a black eye and to make matters worse, guess who she runs into. Mia. Oh joy. She of course can't pass up an opportunity to make matter worse, she has to rub it in a bit more that it was Rose's own mother who gave her the black eye. So after getting away from Mia Rose goes to Lissa to talk. For the first time in a while they're able to sit and talk like they used to. Rose talks about what happened with her mother and Lissa has found out some more about Spirit. But Lissa has to leave as she's meeting Christian. Rose heads to her own dorm and decides to go just go to bed, but before she even makes it, she's pulled into Lissa's mind.

Quote:
"Wow. What'd he do to deserve that? Rescue orphans from a burning bulding? If so, you might want to make sure he didn't set the building on fire in the first place."

Ha ha, Rose.

Chapter 8:
First sentence:
Christian was kissing her.

We start this chapter with Rose in Lissa's head and Lissa and Christian are getting hot and heavy. Of course Rose tried to get out of Lissa's head cause it's not really something she wants to see, but it fails and she kind of just has to, well, be there anyways even as things between Lissa and Christian gets more...intense. Later on she's in training with Dimitri and wowza. Intense. Rose goes on about how he doesn't feel anything and how she's just another student to him which ends up with him grabbing her hand and pinning it against the wall. Rose realizes how much Dimitri is always holding back. And she kisses him! And he kisses her back! Aww. Of course then comes the same old same old with the can't thing and so on.

Quote:
Before he realized what was happening. I kissed him. Our lips met, and when I felt him kiss me back, I knew I was right.

Chapter 9:
First sentence:
I didn't see Dimitri for a while after that.

Rose is invited to a party, a christmas thing where both Tasha, Lissa, Christian and Mason will be along with Dimitri and her mother, Janine. Rose sees Dimitri and Tasha talking, all comfortable and cozy which of course is not that great considering her feelings for Dimitri. To make matter worst when Rose talks to her mother in her room she tells Rose that Tasha is interested in Dimitri- in more ways than just being a guardian. The making babies kind of interested. Poor Rose.

Quote:
This was the worse Christmas ever.

Chapter 10:
First sentence:
The ski trip couldn't have come a moment too soon.

I kind of just wanna write: Adrian under here and be done with it.
But of course other things happen as well.
The ski trip is happening and it gives Rose and chance to get away from Dimitri after everything that's happened between them and finding out Tasha is interested in him. Rose spends a lot of time with Lissa, Christian and Mason and while there she decides to move on from Dimitri- with Mason.  The whole "gang" (Lissa, Christian, Rose and Mason) go skiing, Rose and Mason doing crazy stuff and Lissa and Christian taking it more slow.
And then... "Hey little dhampir." Adrian! Yaay! Adrian and Rose talk a little in the way they do, flirting and so. Rose finds out he's an Ivashkov, a huge and rich royal Moroi family. Then Mia steps in and ruins everything just with her presence, but it's funny cause Adrian is making cat noises at them.
Rose leaves and Adrian says "I'll see you soon." Yeah, you will, haha.

Quote:
"Hey, little dhampir."
