Review: Heat Wave by Karina Halle

Heat Wave by Karina Halle

They say when life closes one door, another one opens.
This door happens to lead to paradise.
And a man I can never, ever have.

~~~
Still grieving the loss of her sister who died two years ago, the last thing Veronica "Ronnie" Locke needed was to lose her job at one of Chicago’s finest restaurants and have to move back in with her parents. So when a window of opportunity opens for her – running a kitchen at a small Hawaiian hotel – she’d be crazy not to take it.
The only problem is, the man running the hotel drives her crazy:
Logan Shephard.
It doesn’t matter that he’s got dark brown eyes, a tall, muscular build that’s sculpted from daily surfing sessions, and a deep Australian accent that makes your toes curl.
What does matter is that he’s a grump.
Kind of an asshole, too.
And gets under Ronnie’s skin like no one else.
But the more time Ronnie spends on the island of Kauai, falling in love with the lush land and its carefree lifestyle, the closer she gets to Logan. And the closer she gets to Logan, the more she realizes she may have pegged him all wrong. Maybe it’s the hot, steamy jungles or the invigorating ocean air, but soon their relationship becomes utterly intoxicating.
There’s just one major catch.
The two of them together would incite a scandal neither Ronnie, nor her family, would ever recover from.
Forbidden, Illicit, off-limits – sometimes the heat is worth surrendering to, even if you get burned.
Note: this is a standalone novel, unrelated to any previous books. It does NOT contain cheating of any kind.
My rating:
Karina Halle brings the heat in Heat Wave! (Sorry had to).
In all seriousness.. I absolutely loved this book!
Veronica aka Ronnie loses her job at one of Chicago's finest resturants and she is forced to move back with her parents. With everything, losing her sister two years prior and now her job, Ronnie needs a fresh start. A chance to work in the kitchen of a small Hawaiian hotel is something she won't pass up. The grumpy Aussie running the hotel, Logan could pose a problem with the history that they share.
So, I get like a couple of pages into the book and just sit there okay whaaat. Then I wonder how this will all work out, how will the story play out and please tell me there's a happy end. Those are just the best books! Starts out great and it becomes amazing!
I just... I love everything about it. The storyline is something I have never ever read before, so original. The people you love them and hate them, they all make you feel. And then of course Ronnie and Logan.. All I can say these two = perfection. Karina Halle and her writing just brings all the emotions, I laughed, I cried - and mean cried a lot at some point, like half sobs and all coming out. Beautiful beautiful writing.. I felt like I was there and just felt so much for these characters.. I felt their love, their pain all of it.
Also have to say, okay anyone who knows me, know I hate the heat. I do.. Winter, it's my time, favorite time of year, I love the cold I just find it more pleasant, but damn this book made me want to travel to warm Hawaii.. that's how great this place and people and all of it sound.
And I gotta go all cheesy here and say you will definitly experience a heat wave from all the steam in this book.
Another amazing book by Karina Halle, a must read! Seriously!
