Throwback Thursday #20
Throwback Thursday is a bookish meme hosted every two weeks by me and Stephanie @Bookfever where we feature books that we've read in the past but are still crazy about. It could be a book you read as a child and still remember and love or maybe just a book that you haven't read in a long time and want to show your love for. Each week we'll be featuring a new random question to answer!
My pick this week:
Once dead, Twice shy by Kim Harrison
My name is Madison Avery, and I'm here to tell you that there's more out there than you can see, hear, or touch. Because I'm there. Seeing it. Touching it. Living it.
Madison's prom was killer—literally. For some reason she's been targeted by a dark reaper—yeah, that kind of reaper—intent on getting rid of her, body and soul. But before the reaper could finish the job, Madison was able to snag his strange, glowing amulet and get away.
Now she's stuck on Earth—dead but not gone. Somehow the amulet gives her the illusion of a body, allowing her to toe the line between life and death. She still doesn't know why the dark reaper is after her, but she's not about to just sit around and let fate take its course.
With a little ingenuity, some light-bending, and the help of a light reaper (one of the good guys! Maybe . . . ), her cute crush, and oh yeah, her guardian angel, Madison's ready to take control of her own destiny once and for all, before it takes control of her.
Well, if she believed in that stuff.
I really enjoyed this book and it's yet another one where I really need to read the rest in the series. I still remember Barnabas and his awesomeness though. I also really liked Madison as a main character, she had a great personality.
Quote:
“The seraph looked up, and pain sliced through my head as our eyes met, almost blinding me. "I honor you. You can do something I cannot," it said softly. "For all I am and all I have been, you are human. You are loved for your inventiveness, both good and bad. I can kill, but you can create. You can even create...an end," it said wistfully. "That's something I will never be able to do. Accept this. Create.”
Question of the week:
Favorite title of a book?
Under the never sky
Through the ever night
Into the still blue
So really this is more than one book, but the thing that I love about these is that the titles goes together. I think it's so great how the titles is a sentence and they also explain to some extend what is happening in the books- where they are.
You know I love that book! And the story that goes before it in Promnights from Hell! Barnabas is the best. I was totally shipping him and Madison! <3
