Introducing: Re-readathon: Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead Day #1

To keep up with our goal of re-reading more of our favorite books this year and re-discover them we created this challenge for ourselves to help accomplish that goal. We will be reading one chapter each day and also doing a blog post about the chapter, going into detail about each chapter in the book. We decided to start our re-read with Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.
Co-hosted by Stephanie @ Bookfever & me!

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

*Remember there will be spoilers*

Chapter 1:

First sentence:
I felt her fear before I heard her screams.

Not much happened in the first chapter due to how short it was.
There were an introduction to the main characters characters, Rose, Lissa and even Dimitri also had time to show up. We were also introduced to the world of Vampire Academy, first Rose just tosses out the names Dhampir and Moroi before you even know what she's talking about- what you do know right away though is that cats don't like dhampirs. However Lissa feeds from Rose shortly after that. We also early on understand that there is some kind of connection between between Rose and Lissa, but it is not explained just yet other than they have a psychic bond. Lissa's compulsion also makes an appearance when Rose and Lissa have to leave their place because they've been discovered. Rose's badass attitude shows already in the first chapter so you know right away that she will not be some whiny maincharacter POV.
Even though the chapter isn't that long there's still a lot of things happening, but also we're not told or explained all of the things going on.
It's a good intro to the world of VA, it pulls you in and makes you curious as to what exactly is going on here, who's Dimitri, who's Rose and Lissa for that matter and why are they running?

Quote:
"But I ordered my muscles to stop their bitching and clung to Lissa as our feet pounded against the concrete."

  1. Great intro to the book and I am so glad I found this re-readathon as an excuse to read this book again! It's amazing how much we miss the first time we read a book and how we pick up the little details when we read it again :)
