Re-readathon: Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead chapter #9

To keep up with our goal of re-reading more of our favorite books this year and re-discover them we created this challenge for ourselves to help accomplish that goal. We will be reading one chapter each day and also doing a blog post about the chapter, going into detail about each chapter in the book. We decided to start our re-read with Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

Chapter 9:
First sentence:
I snapped into her mind, once again seeing and directly experiencing what went on around her.

The beginning of this chapter is Rose in Lissa's head and Lissa is going up to the church's attic and there's Christian. I really liked their conversation, Christian just sees right through everything, he can't be fooled so easily. There was a nice and long Lissa and Christian scene. You can really tell that they're now pretty comfortable around eachother.
Rose though gets, well jealous I guess over Christian and Lissa's closeness and the fact that he can bring her a sense of peace- for a long time Rose was the one, the only one, to take care of Lissa so it must be hard that there's suddenly more people in her life. Doesn't make it easier that she still doesn't trust Christian.
She still brooding by the time she's gonna meet up with Jesse (ihhh I know what's coming! haha). So yeah they go somewhere to be alone, they start kissing and even get into a conversation about the whole feeding Lissa- or Rose denies it and Jesse doesn't really believe it, but then! There's Dimitri! (yay!).  Hot angry Dimitri grabbing Jess and sending him outta there! Then we move on to Dimitri's lecture to Rose about her actions. Rose learns a bit more about Dimitri and the fact that he's still hurting over losing his assignment and friend. It ends with them, I guess you can say deciding on more training. Rose wants to learn how to fight, but still has to do the basics so her training will take more time, but she'll learn more.
This was a great chapter. First very great moment with Lissa and Christian and then moving on to Rose and Dimitri also having a moment where you can really see the attraction is there.

And then it shifted. It was almost like he'd been taken by surprise, like he'd never noticed me before. Had it been any other guy, I would have said he was checking me out. As it was, he was definitely studying me.

Awww good Dimitri!

  2. I thought this was a great growth chapter for all the characters individually and I loved that the couples (R&D; L&C) got a little closer to each other respectively :)
    Jesse just annoys me.

    Great post!
