Re-readathon: Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead chapter #15

To keep up with our goal of re-reading more of our favorite books this year and re-discover them we created this challenge for ourselves to help accomplish that goal. We will be reading one chapter each day and also doing a blog post about the chapter, going into detail about each chapter in the book. We decided to start our re-read with Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

Chapter 15:
First sentence:
Mason delivered.

Rose gets the box of books from Mason who got them from Christian. So she starts reading up on St. Vladimir and shadow-kissed Anna. As Rose reads on there's more and more similarities between Lissa and St. Vladimir. We're then thrown into a flashback with Ms. Karp telling Rose she is shadow-kissed and has to take care of Lissa. It's clear that Ms. Karp uses compulsion on Rose to get her to take Lissa away and protect her.
Back in the present Mason shows up to take Rose over to Lissa. Turns out there's a party going on there which reminds Rose of the last party her and Lissa went to at the academy. In another flashback we finally learned what it was that happened exactly and how it was that Rose decided to take Lissa away from the Academy.
Rose has really grown since that night. She won't drink around Lissa since she knows she has to keep her guard up, thinking of what Dimitri told her. She also won't drink due to what happened the last time.
So two whole flashbacks in this chapter both telling us more about what happened that did that Rose and Lissa left the academy.

Quote:

I couldn't feel a thing through the bond. The alcohol had numbed it.

I really just wanted that in there cause it made me think of Adrian in The Golden Lily where he's drinking to give some privacy to Jill.

  2. I thought this was a great background chapter. I do wonder where Sonia got all her knowledge from though, she didn't have a shadow-kissed bond. Great post Christina :)
