Re-readathon: Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead Day #4

To keep up with our goal of re-reading more of our favorite books this year and re-discover them we created this challenge for ourselves to help accomplish that goal. We will be reading one chapter each day and also doing a blog post about the chapter, going into detail about each chapter in the book. We decided to start our re-read with Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.
Co-hosted by Stephanie @ Bookfever & me!

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

Chapter 4:

First sentence
We didn't have the entire commons' attention this time, thank God, but a few passing people has stopped to stare.

This chapter starts off where the previous one ended, in the commons where Rose and Lissa have a confrontation with "Doll Girl" as they call her. After avoiding getting in a fight (cause it's Rose so it could happen) Rose and Lissa head over to the feeders- a place where Lissa can get the blood she needs. Rose is struggling with her feelings about not being Lissa's blood source anymore, she's not sure why exactly she feels weird about it, she knows that she shouldn't want it, but still misses the bliss it gave her. After they head back to the commons to get lunch and we hear more information about the difference between Moroi and Dhampirs - Moroi need food just like Dhampirs and humans, but don't have an appetite for it after drinking blood. We also find out that Moroi can wield elemental magic- even once used it to help with food and water production. Each Moroi have an ability for each element, but when they got to be old enough they specialize in one when one element grew stronger than the others. Lissa though hasn't specialized in one yet.
This chapter along with some more information is Rose and Lissa's continued first day back dealing both with the stares and all since they got back. Through the day it seems that a lot has gotten used to seeing them back however. Rose notices Lissa mostly sitting and staring and then talks to her about leaving, but Lissa tells her that she thinks that they should stay, so that means no more escape plans and they're offcially back in school.
In this chapter it's confirmed that Lissa's parent's and brother are dead and she's the only heir.
At the end of the chapter Rose is once again "sucked" into Lissa's head, feeling her emotions and seeing with her eyes as she goes to her retreat in attic of the chapel. And we just have enough time to meet Christian Ozera. Yay!
Few facts!
"Moroi were alive; Strigoi were undead. Moroi were mortal; Strigoi were immortal. Moroi were born; Strigoi were made.
Christian's parents were strigoi so as you can imagine, he's not that popular.

Quote:

"Don't worry," he said. "I won't bite. Well, at least not in the way you're afraid of." He chuckled at his own joke.

  1. There are no words for how much I love Christian (and not only because of his name xD). I wish he was more in Bloodlines. He's just mentioned here and there... :(

  2. This was a great foundation laying chapter. I found it interesting when Rose was contemplating her feelings about staying/leaving again - that she admitted to herself that she actually does enjoy being back but you can see she has changed a bit from who she used to be and her priority is Lissa. I love Christian to pieces!!
