Re-readathon: Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead chapter #17

To keep up with our goal of re-reading more of our favorite books this year and re-discover them we created this challenge for ourselves to help accomplish that goal. We will be reading one chapter each day and also doing a blog post about the chapter, going into detail about each chapter in the book. We decided to start our re-read with Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

Chapter 17:
First sentence:
A few days later, Lissa found me outside the commons and delivered the most astonishing news.

So it seems Rose finally gets just a little bit of freedom in this chapter. It starts off all happy with Lissa being excited about going to the mall with Victor, Natalie, Camille and some guardians and that means Dimitri, too, but that's until Lissa opens her bag and yet another dead animal. A dove this time.. So awful. So Rose does get to go to the mall, but it's a training excercise for her and of course Dimitri has some wise words for her. Rose is really beginning to be a lot more responsible compared to the start of the book. She watches Lissa and doesn't get into the shopping and all, however Lissa buys her a dress. There's also another flashback of how Lissa and Rose got out and all and more about Ms. Karp and how she killed to become Strigoi.
I love Rose and Dimitri's moment in the car. So cute!
So they just make it back, Rose jumps on a bench and.. end of chapter with her blacking out.
Really good chapter!

Quote:
"Did you see the dress?"
"I saw the dress."
"Did you like it?"
He didn't answer. I took that as a yes.
"Am I going to endanger my reputation if I wear it to the dance?"
When he spoke, I could barely hear him. "You'll endanger the school."

See! Really cute moment!

  1. This was a good chapter. I never noticed before how Natalie is there after every dead animal appears... Interesting! I loved the moments that Rose and Dimitri shared as they each realise they are maybe falling for each other :)
