Re-readathon: Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead chapter #12

To keep up with our goal of re-reading more of our favorite books this year and re-discover them we created this challenge for ourselves to help accomplish that goal. We will be reading one chapter each day and also doing a blog post about the chapter, going into detail about each chapter in the book. We decided to start our re-read with Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

Chapter 12:
First sentence:
Sleep came reluctanly that night, and I tossed and turned for a long time before finally going under.

This chapter starts with Rose waking up and having to hurry to Lissa since she feels through their bond that something is wrong. To get out of her dorm Rose has the matron call Dimitri and together they hurry over to Lissa dorm. Once there Rose hurried to the bathroom where she can feel Lissa is. She finds Lissa with blood all over, some of it belongs to her after she cut herself and some to the rabbit in her room. Rose helps Lissa clean her wrists and bandage them before Dimitri and the matron come inside. Lissa is taken to the nurse and Rose stays there until she's told to leave. You can really tell how Lissa is struggling, with her powers and on top of that someone are dropping dead animals in her room.
The next day people are whispered still about what happened with the queen, but as the days moved on they start whispering about something else- Rose giving Lissa blood. Rose of course right away think it's Christian. Christian is being as awesome as ever and points them in the right direction. Jesse. Jesse and his pal Ralf has spread rumors that they both slept with Rose and that she let them drink her blood. Rose walks to them, probably wanting to beat them up, but she can't, if she does she would be sent away- so she walks away.
That doesn't make the day any easier and now people just get worse.. Back in her dorm Rose cries for the first time in a long time. Suddenly Dimitri shows up (So sweet of him to make it happen) and take her outside to talk to Lissa for a few minutes. Lissa is determined to do something about it, which isn't good since it will mean using her powers, powers that Rose was told she should stop her from using because the more she use them, the worse it gets.
A lot of things went down in this chapter and was really like in the end Lissa and Rose switched places, from Rose protecting Lissa to Lissa wanting to protect Rose. Let's see what happens next..

Quote:

They ran through the halls and hid in the corners. Someone hated Lissa, someone who was probably smiling right to her face and pretending to be her friend. I couldn't let them destroy her.

  1. It's fun to re-read some of your favorites, isn't it? :) I think I've re-read most of the series I'm obsessed with at least three times each! I mentioned you today in my blog post, hope you don't mind: http://authorjess.blogspot.com/2014/02/snooping-around-sunday-blog-lovin.html

  2. I found this to be a bit of an emotional chapter for me. I can't dislike Rose even if I try, she just does some stupid mean things with regards to Christian who just rises above it like he has his entire life. I loved seeing how much Rose is prepared to do to protect Lissa and I admire for Lissa being determined to protect Rose even if I don't agree with the way she does it. Great Post Christina :)
