Re-readathon: Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead chapter #14

To keep up with our goal of re-reading more of our favorite books this year and re-discover them we created this challenge for ourselves to help accomplish that goal. We will be reading one chapter each day and also doing a blog post about the chapter, going into detail about each chapter in the book. We decided to start our re-read with Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

Chapter 14:
First sentence:
I continued spying on Lissa over the next couple of days, feeling mildly guilty each time.

A short chapter where Rose continues to get inside Lissa's head where she sees Lissa still getting more and more involved with the royals. It seems that Natalie is a bit suspicious about it all- how the royals are defending Rose now, but she doesn't really read more into it.
There's also an incident in church where Lissa uses compulsion on two guys to get them to apologize to Rose. In church Rose are reminded about St. Vladimir and decides she wants to find out more about it. Coming up empty online she realizes that she needs Christian's help. There's old boxes in the church attic that she needs, old writings from St. Vladimir. Rose is slowly putting the pieces together about the fact that Lissa's powers is a lot like St. Vladimir's. Rose is on her way to practice when two guys harass her, luckily Mason steps in and saved the day. Rose really admits that she has a crush on Dimitri in relation to why she can't like Mason. So since Rose and Christian aren't really the best of friends Rose asks Mason to get the message to Christian, asking Christian to get the writings and also that what Rose said to him wasn't true (yay!).
A really short chapter that somehow pushes the story along with the connection between Lissa and St. Vladimir, Rose's crush and Lissa's in with the royals.

Quote:

"Look, don't take being pissed off at them out on me."I just don't like being treated like...a girl." "You are a girl. And I was just trying to help."

It shows Rose's personality with her not really wanting to be the damsel in distress, but take care of herself, and others for that matter, she doesn't want to be saved.

  1. This was a great, short and sweet chapter. I am so happy Rose is realising she could be wrong about Christian and that she has apologised - even if it is through Mason for now. It's scary to see that Lissa doesn't realise how powerful she is! Ai Mason.. he deserves so much better.
